Jump on the cupping train

When Michael Phelps showed up with purple marks across his back, and arms, during the Olympic games in Rio in 2016 everybody collectively wondered what in the world had happened to him.  Phelps had brought an age old healing technique into the limelight: cupping. One of the services we offer at AMC is cupping, and we are here to let you know that it is not just for Olympic athletes!

  1. The suction can increase blood flow and gently relieve muscle tension through drawing the muscle into the cup, improving circulation, and lead to a relaxing sensation.
  2. Cupping is also used to treat pain, even chronic pain—back pain and headaches, in particular.
  3. Stress and athletic injuries cause local inflammation. Cupping, then, reduces stress, and speeds up the healing process, by improving blood circulation in that area by attracting immune cells (white blood cells) to the location to increase the repair and recovery process, so that the swelling can go down.
