Crescent Lunge (Anjaneyasana)
This pose creates a flexible strength that tones the lower body, stabilizes the torso and lengthens the upper body. There is an element of balance in this pose so it helps to find your center, both physically and mentally.
To take full advantage of this long stance, begin in downward facing down and step your right foot towards your right hand, with your knee bent at 90 degrees. Lunge deep and leave about 4 inches inbetween your feet, it will be difficult to balance if your feet are on one line. Keep your tail tucked under as you sweep your arms overhead, palms facing one another. Now, soften your eyes and allow a steady gaze out in front of you. Breathe strength into your legs and exhale tension in your shoulders.
